Since there is no longer a need to run around the locomotive at Maho Junction, the distance between Kurunegala/Habarana through Maho on the old line and Kurunegala/Habarana via Dambulla on the new line is reduced by 30.5 km, which is a significant benefit given the needs of modern transportation. Additional passenger and freight trains will be able to operate between the ports of Colombo and Trincomalee and other significant towns in the area thanks to the increased speed and safety. These trains will also make it simple and direct to visit religious, historic, and recreational sites in the provinces. The new track will advance local produce transportation, tourism, and socioeconomic development in the area.
